Evangelism and evidence

Have you ever been amazed at the simplicity of Scripture? Have you ever pondered the easy-to-understand arguments for the defence of its accuracy? Martin Luther writes,

‘I have often said that whoever would study the Holy Scripture should be sure to see to it that he stays with the simple words as long as he can and by no means departs from them unless an article of faith compels him to understand them differently. For of this we can be certain: no simpler speech has been heard on Earth than what God has spoken.’1

Most of us can understand the ‘simple words’ of Scripture, but what about when it comes to defending the accuracy of the Bible in Genesis? The constant barrage of conflicting ideas and interpretations, and the millions of years/evolutionary propaganda are enough to confuse and bewilder even the clearest of thinkers. However, the Bible—and the creation evidence that come from it—often involve simple, easy-to-understand responses as well.

Admittedly, some of the details behind those simple answers can get very complex and involve some complicated science. (This is why we have highly educated creation scientists working on these details.) Nevertheless, many of the conclusions that creationist research offers are simple and easy to understand. Here are some examples.

Biology

The single cell—the one we all apparently came from, according to evolution—didn’t have the genetic information for hair, skin, eyes, heart, brain, etc. So where did the information come from? Evolutionist’s answer: natural selection plus mutations. Natural selection (which creationists accept) can only reduce the information in a group of living things. Mutations (even in the rare instances where they give a survival benefit) invariably downgrade information. Today we see genetic information being divided, rearranged or destroyed—we do not see new, never-before-existing information arising by natural processes. A logical and Biblical conclusion is that in the beginning God (who has all information) created genes perfectly and they have been deteriorating since the Curse.

Geology

Fossils form slowly, we are told in many textbooks today. However many fossils lack evidence of decay. Small fish bones, delicate leaves, even animal skin have been fossilized and beautifully preserved. To produce that kind of preservation, rapid burial is required. This is exactly what we would expect if Genesis 6–9 were accurate regarding a worldwide Flood.

Radiometric dating

When a rock hardens after it is formed, radioactive elements begin to decay into stable, non-radioactive elements. In theory, by measuring the ratio of the radioactive (parent) element to the stable (daughter) element and knowing the radioactive decay rate, an age for the rock can be calculated. But how much radioactive material was there when the rock formed? Was there any daughter material in the rock when it formed? Was any of the parent or daughter material added or removed after the formation of the rock? Was the decay rate constant? Since nobody was there to measure these things, assumptions must be made about them. These assumptions greatly affect the rock’s calculated age. Therefore, radiometric dating is not the absolute dating method that many people believe it to be. And in practice, dates are often obtained which don’t ‘fit’ with evolutionary beliefs, so these are discarded and explained away.

The Creation Answers Book

Much more detail could be added to these examples, but the main points are easy for most people to understand. And that’s the really exciting thing! These simple evidence can be used to get many people—not just those with a science background—thinking about the accuracy of the Bible. In other words, they can be used as a launch pad for witnessing!

This ministry exists to equip Christians with easy-to-understand evidence that Christians can then use to show others that the Bible’s account of history is correct. That’s why we publish books like the Creation Answers Book [above right], with scientific but easy-to-understand answers. (There’s little point in equipping Christians with answers that are too complex for the average person to understand.)

This is what ‘creation evangelism’ is all about: Christians, equipped in their faith, boldly yet gently challenging the worldview of non-believers with a simple, comprehensible message of the truth and accuracy of God’s Holy Word. Ultimately, after removing any sceptical questions that the Bible is accurate, Christians lead the nonbelievers to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Isn’t this a wonderful time to be a Christian? Praise God, we have so much support for our faith—for the accuracy of His Word—even in Genesis. We trust that our speakers, Web site and materials are helping you to grow bolder in your witnessing efforts. To God be the glory.
