If the reaction to CMI’s 2011 Super Conference from August 14–19 were to be summarized in a single word it would be, gratefulness. People expressed that they were simply grateful that CMI would organize such a conference. They were grateful for the speakers, for the information presented, for the Muskoka Bible Centre (MBC) facilities, for the food, and many other things. It was a week full of encouragement for all concerned.

Although there was some room left in the campground, the main accommodations at MBC were completely filled (something that had never happened before) well in advance of the event. However, the Conference attendance was not limited to the 1000 adults plus 300 children at MBC (near Huntsville, ON Canada), there were about 35,000 people watching the sessions live on the Internet all over the world.

‘Reptile Rob’ Ruthart teaching, humour and the animals were a big hit among the children (and many adults) and a great addition to the MBC children’s program.

Here are some comments from conference attendees:

“I just wanted to let you know that I had a great time at the Supercamp last week at MBC. I’ve been a ‘Creation-junkie’ for a few years, and love reading the material and watching videos. But it was a unique experience to be a part of the audience for these speeches. They were so full of information, but more than that, they were full of Scripture. It is beautiful how they always come to the ultimate application at the conclusion of their presentation with the fullness of Jesus Christ and his redemptive work. The lectures about evangelism were very informative and helpful. They put the proper perspective on how to use the information. Science is fascinating, and it’s wonderful how it supports creation; but the important thing is application. Thank you for putting together such an informative week, arming so many people with information for evangelizing our scientific, skeptic/atheistic world. May God bless you in your efforts, and in the efforts of everyone who benefited from the information presented.

“Dear brethren,
I wish to thank you all, scientists and members of the Muskoka Bible Centre for giving us this opportunity to watch such a faith building event, which brings glory to our Lord and edifies the saints … I am watching you from Thessaloniki, Greece, the city where the Gospel was first preached with the power of the Holy Spirit, but where the humanistic spirit prevails, as in all Greece, and there are no Christian scientists to stand up and teach the faith in God’s Word. … “I have tried to inform as many Christian scientists I know about the conference but due to the time difference it is hard to attend all of the presentations … For instance, Dr Silvestru’s presentation started at 2 am and I had to wake up in the middle of the night in order to watch it.

“So, I would like to ask you if it is possible for you to broadcast again the presentations (recorded) at times that would take into consideration the different time zones, so that more people can watch them. [The sessions will all be available for viewing online here]

“Again, thank you very much for this wonderful effort. I am praying for the success of the conference and for each of the scientists who do such hard work for our sake. God bless you all.”

—Sofia A., Greece

Many people were introduced to Dr Jim Mason (PhD in Experimental Nuclear Physics), one of CMI’s newest speakers as he presented evidence from physics that radioisotope dating actually supports a young earth.
[Left] Dr Emil Silvestru displayed his usual ‘Romanian charm’ and great depth of knowledge in his presentations on flood geology and during the Geology Field Trip, explaining how the Flood and its after effects provide a much more robust foundation for understanding geologic features. Comments from CMI’s Facebook page throughout the week included:

‘Thank you so much for broadcasting this. Our family was unable to be with you at MBC, so we are listening and watching as much as we can from home.’

Mary W., “Thank you for making these sessions available for those of us who can’t be there!!!!”

Juergen B., “Good to see such men of substance, like professors, proclaiming the truth of GOD’s wonderful Creation to everyone who has ears to hear!”

Christine P., “Thank you so much for broadcasting this. Our family was unable to be with you at MBC, so we are listening and watching as much as we can from home.”

Philip P, “Is it me or does Dr. Emil look like Charles Spurgeon?”

Melissa L. [homeschooling mom], “We’ve pretty much decided to watch the conference in lieu of doing school this week … I’m loving the meetings!”

Jill W., “Great talk! Thanks so much for providing these live broadcasts—almost as good as being there!

[After Calvin’s talk on dinosaurs].

Noellene C., “Saw these three speakers this morning Australian Eastern Standard time starting at 9am. Was riveted for nearly 4 hours. Especially liked Cory McKenna’s talk on Evangelising.”

Brent M., “Great discussions. I watched John Sanford’s lecture on Genetic Entropy. Darwinism is in trouble. Natural selection and mutations producing macro evolution is a bust. Population Genetics research proves it. Darwin: RIP.”

Dr Jonathan Sarfati demolished both Darwin and Dawkins ideas with his ability to see through faulty arguments from atheists and evolutionists. He also challenged 30 people to chess at the same time, and beat them all. Aren’t you glad he’s on our side!

Gary showed that the biblical worldview makes sense of these things. Since his book popular book Alien Intrusion was released it has been a help to hundreds of people deal with experiences they have had in this area, including many that he privately counseled at the camp.

Here is how some folks at MBC responded to the question, “What part of the program was most significant to you?”

‘The information is so broad and consistent with the Biblical teaching that I went from having many questions to having many answers leading to my 6-day creationist stance now.’

“Ph.D. scientists relating current scientific knowledge to the Word of God, providing a real world basis for defending the faith. Excellent info to combat the evolutionary worldview.”

—Chris D., US.

“The diversity of the scientific information collectively supporting creation. The information is so broad and consistent with the Biblical teaching that I went from having many questions to having many answers leading to my 6-day creationist stance now.”

—Chris J., Canada.(He came to the conference believing that the earth was old)

“Nice to meet many of the presenters in person.”

—Bill G., Canada.

“Having many different speakers covering many different topics. A real treat!”

—William M., Canada.

“I loved just how much information was available. I thoroughly enjoyed the late [optional ‘night owl’] sessions, and was still hungry for more at the following morning sessions.”

—Shawn E., Canada.

“Enjoyed all the topics. Really good to have seminars on evangelism with the sciences.”

—Roger B., Canada.

“Solid, detailed lectures. Thanks for not watering it down all the way. I needed meat!”

Dr Robert Carter gave 4 powerful presentations on genetic evidence that we all go back to one man and one woman, contrary to recent statements by Francis Collins of Biologos. He received a standing ovation for this exciting presentation. He also detailed how the incredible complexity of our genes and evidence that coral reefs fit with a recent global flood and do not require millions of years to form.

[Right] Calvin Smith was one of the emcees for the Conference and frequently seen doing announcements between the speaking sessions. On Sunday morning, to begin the conference, he ‘put the pieces together’ explaining why understanding the origins issue is vital for the Church today. He also did a very popular afternoon session for children and adults on how wonderfully dinosaurs fit with the Bible.

General comments

“Fantastic Conference—I’m absolutely amazed at the marked expertise covering such a huge gamut of knowledge. BRAVO BOYS!!”

“Reptile Rob was a great asset to the program.”

Dr John Sanford, Cornell University professor delivered startling data from genetics that humans could not possibly have been evolving for a great length of time. Evolutionary population geneticists are at a loss to explain this powerful evidence for a recent creation.

—Jim B., Canada.

[The speakers were] “Absolutely top-notch, able to bring complex scientific concepts down to earth.”

—Shawn E., Canada.

“Truly ‘super’ Conference”

—Faye C., Canada.

“The value for our money was phenomenal … to hear so many different speakers all week for the cost of camping seemed unbelievable.”

—Henry T., Canada.

“I really appreciate how much [the speakers] brought the focus to God in their presentations with humility. I appreciate their avoidance of ego. I love science. I have been a committed creationist since high school (with few resources). This week has been a creation buffet and I have eaten as much as possible. I am going home to digest. Then will share will others … Now I have more answers & hopefully I will prepare my children much better than I had opportunity.”

—Becky H., Canada. (She was told about the Conference by a friend, came to the conference believing that the earth was old but left as a 6-day creationist).

“I was very encouraged that former atheists [several of the Conference presenters] became believers in the Bible and share their expertise with us—so much for me to think about for many months/years to come.”

“Excellent! Great job! I especially appreciated the humbleness and empathy from such educated men for our lost (& off track & deceived) world.”

“Having it at a facility with a lake and a campground was a big draw for families to stay for the week.”

“The amount of content leads to intellectual overload so it will take some time to process it all—thanks for the website and other resources to equip us in the weeks to come.”

The 2011 Super Conference carried on a tradition that began 10 years ago with the 2001 Super Conference in the USA. This was the first Super Conference held and organized by CMI-Canada. Next year’s Super Conference is in the USA, August 1-5 and the 2013 Super Conference is in Australia, Jan 2-6, 2013.

Given the overwhelming and incredible responses given by attendees don’t sit on the fence with whether to attend or not. It’s been a life-changing experience for some.

Richard Fangrad and the live broadcast facility
[Left] Richard Fangrad was one of the emcees for the Conference and also gave 3 presentations. The first session of the Conference was a foundational talk that gave context to the more technical information coming in the next 6 days. He also did a ‘night owl’ session showing his pictures of rafting the Grand Canyon and evidence in the rocks for its rapid formation. His final presentation on evangelism on the final Friday morning was much appreciated. It showed how the scientific information supporting the accuracy of the Bible can be used to lead people to Christ. [Right] The free, live broadcast of the entire 6-day Conference was made possible by Pastor Rod Hembree and his amazing crew. This is the same crew that provides the studio, equipment and all the talented people to produce Creation Magazine LIVE!
