Very instructive this - it's such a shame that the Christianity-vs-materialism debate these days is characterised by such hostility and antagonism. I guess it's semi-inevitable when one side's case is essentially "you're wrong and anyone holding your view is condemned to eternal damnation unless you listen to us and change your ways" and the other's amounts to essentially "you're a load of pseudoscientists trying to take us back to the dark ages". Even though each side believes\knows (respectively) that this stereotype isn't true, it's the sort of thing that inevitably causes offence. But everything would be so much more productive if there was less of a sense of enmity on both sides. I tend to find the antitheists are far more often at fault for initiating the antagonism than the Christians are, but certainly not always. What never ceases to amaze me is the effort some antitheists put into the effort to disprove God - dispassionate scepticism is one thing and is fair enough in a sense; insistence that theism is an unadulterated evil that humanity must leave behind is quite another.
