Feedback: “Educated, encouraged, equipped and emboldened”
August 15, 2005
This letter is long overdue, but I am really glad to be writing it.
It was through a teacher (who is now senior Pastor at my church) at a Bible school that I first heard about [your ministry] in 2000. This came at precisely the same time as I was studying evolution in a first-year university biology course. (The timing of that always fills me with awe at God’s providence.)
I had not seriously thought about the conflict between the worldviews underpinning trust in the Bible and confidence in evolution.
Since that time, however, I can say that I have been educated, encouraged, equipped and emboldened by your website more than any other that I have ever seen. And this has been almost every single day that I have been online (about 80% of days for almost 6 years).
Your resources and your passion have certainly affected the way I see everything, particularly as a graduate student scientist. My current area of interest involves determination of the structure of macromolecules (particularly proteins), as determined by X-ray crystallography. Although this, like most fields of operational science, has nothing to do with evolution, it is always so clear to me how peer pressure/mob mentality works to keep otherwise reasonable if not brilliant scientists locked into the futile evolutionary philosophical worldview, and so often therefore spiritually “blocked” from apprehending the Gospel.
I had the privilege of listening to Carl Wieland on his visit to South Africa in 2003. Apart from all the erudition and eloquence he showed, I will always remember being profoundly impressed by the man’s humility. If I only ever saw this verse enacted once, that was it: But in your hearts, set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give a reason for the hope that you have. BUT do this with gentleness and respect… (1Peter3:15)
This humility was typical also in the gentleness (but firmness also) of Gary Bates’ interaction with at least one hostile audience member when he spoke at UCT in April 2005.
Words may win some intellectual battles, but genuine love and respect driven by passion for Christ will often win the heart, which frequently dictates to the mind.
I’ve also enjoyed the wonderful opportunity of working with Mr Dolezal and Dr Kruger as part of the Cape Town/South Africa Support Group, particularly at the time of Gary Bates’ Tour.
The differences that you make to the lives of many many people may often never be made known to you. Primary example: I think this is the first feedback I’m submitting after logging surely hundreds of hours at your website. Secondary example: I’ve shared the Gospel with firm historical foundations in Genesis with many people in my life, and have often not seen the fruit of sharing (but I have faith that someone else will). But be encouraged (as I am) that you will one day see all the fruit, and hear the Lord’s rejoicing voice ?? “Well done, good and faithful servant… come and share in My happiness!”
I have hope that in my next feedback I will be giving a testimony of the role of your Creation magazine in bringing my father to repentance and salvation in Christ.
“Continue to shine like stars in the universe as you hold out the [True and Complete] Word of Life.”
most sincerely and gratefully
p.s. there is still a LOT of work to be done [ESPECIALLY in the churches!!]
Mark Savage, who hails from Durham UK, emotionally points out:
Your website is both hilarious and a disgrace. Your ideas are one of the many reasons the rest of the world hates America and the sooner you are silenced, the better. The world can do without poisonous scum like you. Your responses to your feedback are of a low intelligence with regard for debating and I just wanted to let you know I hate everything you stand for.
Dr Sarfati responds:
Your website is both hilarious and a disgrace.
While you haven’t pointed out any instances of disgrace, we’ll be sure to pass on your accolade of hilarious to Dan Lietha, our cartoonist.
Your ideas are one of the many reasons the rest of the world hates America …
Creation Ministries International is an international ministry, not an American one.
Today, with offices in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, the UK, and the USA, CMI ministers to the church around the world through speaking events, publications, and this website.
I am Australian myself, and it’s notable that a recent poll showed that the 2nd, 3rd and 4th most popular type of the web articles come from Australia.
… and the sooner you are silenced, the better.
But Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, if these become silent, the stones will cry out!’ (Luke 19:40)
The world can do without poisonous scum like you. Your responses to your feedback are of a low intelligence with regard for debating ...
What constitutes high ‘intelligence with regard for debating’ in your manual, Mark? Debate lacking any sort of specifically enunciated criticism and littered with savage abuse is hardly a sign of any desire on your part to advance discernment.
... and I just wanted to let you know I hate everything you stand for.
Thank you (Luke 6:22).
Jonathan Sarfati, Ph.D.
