Exploring Planet Earth by John Tiner
Lesson 3: The Spanish sail west/Sailing around the world
Textbook:
Exploring Planet Earth
These lessons supplement the lessons in the textbook, which are located at the end of each chapter.
Text:
Pages 32-42
Scripture:
- Psalm 18:15
- Job 34:13
- Psalm 33:8
- John 3:16
Note: These lessons discuss the discovery of lands and people groups previously unknown to European and Asian countries. Yet, the people in these 'new' lands were descendants of Noah (and therefore, Adam), so were also in need of salvation. When God says He loves the whole world (John 3:16), this includes people groups in the newly discovered places.
Activity:
Have students trace Magellan's journey on a world map. Research the various countries where he landed (e.g. Brazil, Guam, Phillipines). Write a paper detailing the history of each country.
