Derek Moore-Crispin

Biography

Derek was the one-time pastor of Letchworth Baptist Church in the UK from 1989 until his retirement. He had been a long-standing supporter of CMI-UK/Europe, even serving for several years as one of the trustees until his death in January 2024, age 77.

The question of ‘origins’ was on his radar even as a child. He used to listen to ‘How Things Began’ at primary school. On holiday in the summer his parents used to take him to the church in Hayling Island where A G Tilney (then Secretary of the Evolution Protest Movement) was lay pastor. The question of origins remained with him at university, where he finally became sure of biblical infallibility. At the time, he could not fit an historical Adam and Eve into his thinking—he says “so I left it to the Lord to show me in due time.”

It was in the 1970s, while Derek was preparing a Bible study course for Hillingdon Park Baptist Church (his first pastorate), that he started reading creationist publications. He then realised he had been deceived by the ‘system’ and enthusiastically embraced the biblical position of six-day finished creation.
