The character of God questioned

2 May 2005

I think it’s horrible that you “So Called Catholics” Post stuff about gay rights. Although I do not know any gays I will tell you this. WHAT DOES IT MATTER !! you folks are spending all this time preaching about how guys shouldnt marry guys. And heres a lil known fact most of the killings done in HISTORY have been in the name of GOD ! If our god is powerful then why cant he stop people from doing bad ? Please don’t go into the free will stuff either because if he knows whats good for us then why dont he just do it? Why Starvation, War, Aids, Corruption EVEN IN HIS OWN HOUSE !!!! , Cmon if there was such a person then why don’t he just STOP it all ? Does he love ? Hate, Smile, Feel, Have Compassion If he has all of the qualities So do we and just as he has choices so do we …So what I’ve gathered is this I think as long as your a good person to everyone and NOT do harm to anyone tehn your as good as gold right ? BUT oh no GOD said Thou shalt not lay next to another man like a Woman ? Why would he say that ? I will tell you what I think since the Bible is the GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD. I think God is an invention by man made to give people some rules so we are to have no anarchy. I mean lets face it the whole thou shalt not kill one IS pretty good. I think the “church should be Re-Evaluated” and the Bible be re-Looked at and re-assesed. Remeber it’s YOUR INTERPETATION OF THE BIBLE. You should also be ashamed of yourselves for teching your children to hate. Remeber if GOD hates it and you dont do what god wants then your going to hell too. WOW WHAT A MESSAGE ! Do as I say not as I do.

The Lord tests the righteous and the wicked, And the one who loves violence His soul hates.” Now thats something from a guy who is supposed to love you no matter what. I have seen good people get struck down by cars, die of cancer, be shot for NO reason. Where is the merciful one there ?

please don’t tell me it’s because he needs angels or something like that I am sure he has @ least a 7 to 1 ratio. Anyhooo I am just a guy contemplating his faith and wanted a few answers.

I am a HETEROSEXUAL male that has been Baptized and owns 2 copies of the catholic catechism (last years and about 2 years ago) and a bible and I just dont see it how ANYONE even GOD can let good die and the bad live on. Not just humans either, war, disese, starvation Cmon now you have to do better than that

I think it’s horrible that you “So Called Catholics”

I am not sure where you got your information but we are not under the Catholic Church, but actually lumped under nondenominational protestant Christians.

Post stuff about gay rights.

We merely relay the information that is clearly written in the Bible—God’s Word.

Although I do not know any gays I will tell you this. WHAT DOES IT MATTER !!

Either you trust God and His Word or you trust imperfect man’s ideas. That is what matters. Either God sets the rules or man does. We trust that God sets the rules whereas, those who don’t believe God have no basis for any rules including morality. Looks what happens when people reject God and trust man’s ideas for their morality … Hitler and Stalin

you folks are spending all this time preaching about how guys shouldnt marry guys.

Actually we spend time preaching that people should trust a perfect God and not imperfect men. If people trust God, then the logical conclusion is what is written in God’s Word—the Bible is true and can be trusted. You would also do well to check out our previous feedback responses on the “gay” issue such as The disingenuous and anti-Christian nature of ‘gay rights’ rhetoric.

And heres a lil known fact most of the killings done in HISTORY have been in the name of GOD !

Really? A great argument can be made that evolutionary leaders are responsible for much worse—see The blood-stained ‘century of evolution’. Just count up the killings by the atheistic Stalin alone, which dwarf those of all religious wars combined.

Besides, does that mean God endorsed it? Satanists can claim to do things in the name of God but that doesn’t mean God approves of it in His Word. Regardless, here’s a little known fact: everyone who doesn’t place their faith in Jesus Christ will die an eternal death in Hell—and once again, don’t shoot the messenger; Jesus Himself spoke more about Hell than Heaven.

If our god is powerful then why cant he stop people from doing bad ?

First of all, please try to justify the concept of badness under your own evolutionary framework. I.e., if we are just rearranged pond scum, the result of survival of the fittest, then what could badness mean? What is the difference under your framework between a terrorist blowing up 3,000 people in the Twin Towers and a frog eating 3,000 flies? In fact, since under evolutionary theory your brain is just a piece of meat with neuronal connections, even your moral sense is merely an illusion that provided survival advantage. The famous atheistic evolutionary propagandist Richard Dawkins agreed that evolution “leads to … a moral vacuum, in which their best impulses have no basis in nature” (see this exchange between Dawkins and Lanier). See also Bomb-building vs. the biblical foundation so you might understand what the moral argument is and what it is now.

I suggest you reread Genesis 3. The world is like this because of the curse—it is man’s fault. Originally God created everything perfect, but because of man’s rebellion against God, God cursed the world and the entire creation and sentenced man to die (which was the punishment for sin). In essence, God removed some of His sustaining power so that we would know what it is like to experience life without God.

All this death, suffering and bad things, is the result of man’s actions, not God’s. And yet, God loved us enough to come down and take this punishment on Himself as Jesus Christ, so that we can have a free gift of salvation.

God promises that one day He will remove the curse but the only ones who will experience this recreated perfect world are those are saved through Jesus Christ. See also Why would a loving God allow death and suffering?

Please don’t go into the free will stuff either because if he knows whats good for us then why dont he just do it?

Now that you know what is good for you (namely what God has done for you to allow you entrance into a perfect world by placing your faith in Christ), then why don’t you just do it. I should also add that you don’t really believe this—you would squawk piteously if God interfered in your free will, e.g., crashed your computer every time you typed a blasphemous thought, or even more foundationally, caused a splitting headache every time you thought one.

Why Starvation, War, Aids, Corruption EVEN IN HIS OWN HOUSE !!!! , Cmon if there was such a person then why don’t he just STOP it all ?

He will stop it, but for now, the curse is in effect. Why do you try to blame God for such things, when it was clearly man who caused the world to be like this?

Does he love ? Hate, Smile, Feel, Have Compassion If he has all of the qualities So do we and just as he has choices so do we …

What was wrong with His just judgment on man, and his loving grace to take the punishment on Himself? God was clear that death was the result if man sinned against Him (Genesis 2:17). Would you rather God have lied about it? What kind of God would that be? Would you want to trust a God who lies? In fact, God has given man over to what he wanted, and has been consistent throughout Scripture in this—see God is a liar?

So what I’ve gathered is this I think as long as your a good person to everyone and NOT do harm to anyone tehn your as good as gold right ?

It doesn’t matter what you think. It matters what God thinks. God is the judge and good works aren’t good enough. Being good will not get you salvation—Jesus said He was the only way (John 14:6). Please see Am I good enough to go to heaven?

BUT oh no GOD said Thou shalt not lay next to another man like a Woman ? Why would he say that ?

The only real issue is that God has forbidden such things, because they violate the created order of marriage, as well as the created biological design of men and women. Also, it doesn’t produce godly offspring (Malachi 2:15). In fact, it doesn’t produce any offspring and since we are commanded by God to be fruitful and multiply in Genesis 9:1, then it confirms why this is definitely sinful to God.

I will tell you what I think since the Bible is the GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD.

Again, I am not concerned with what you think but with what God thinks. Why do you think your words are more important than God’s?

I think God is an invention by man made to give people some rules so we are to have no anarchy.

Why don’t you consider the Bible’s claims that God created man? From a big picture, I can either trust you or God … I am going to stick with a perfect God on this. After all, men aren’t perfect like God is.

I mean lets face it the whole thou shalt not kill one IS pretty good.

I agree here even though it is actually “murder,” not “kill” in Hebrew. רצח (ratsach) – a primitive root; properly, to dash in pieces, i.e., kill (a human being), especially to murder:—put to death, kill, (man-)slay(-er), murder(-er).

I think the “church should be Re-Evaluated”

I completely agree here. Much of the church has lost the foundation in the book of Genesis and compromised with the world—mixing Christianity with some form of secular humanism. The church needs to get back to the Bible.

The next generation is having problems because of this. The church rejects one part of Scripture such as Genesis and then they wonder why the next generation rejects more parts … like the Gospel.

and the Bible be re-Looked at and re-assesed.

In a way, I agree here too. Few people, even in the church, even know much about the Bible, so they need to read it. Those who are non-Christians, should at a least take the time to read it as well instead of listening to idle talk about the Bible and alleged contradictions. After all, each alleged contradiction has been answered very well: see Q&A: Bible ‘contradictions’ and ‘errors’ and Genesis articles.

Remeber it’s YOUR INTERPETATION OF THE BIBLE.

God tells us how to interpret the Bible in 2 Corinthians 4:2 and Proverbs 8:8–9. This is the basis for the historical-grammatical method of interpretation. We are to do it “plainly/straightforward.” This means metaphors are metaphors, history is history, poetry is poetry, etc. See also Should Genesis be taken literally?

Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. (2 Corinthians 4:2)

All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them. They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge. (Proverbs 8:8–9)

Your view is postmodernist nonsense, and you would squeal if we treated your letter that way, “interpreting” it contrary to the grammatical and historical context. E.g., when you say that we should be ashamed of ourselves (below), perhaps we should say, “Thank you, we agree that we should be proud of ourselves”. Or maybe we can “interpret” your statement as meaning, “I like Morris dancing with carrots sticking in my ears.” Why not, if any interpretation goes?

You should also be ashamed of yourselves for teching your children to hate.

We, as Christians, are told to hate only one thing:

Let those who love the LORD hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked. (Psalm 97:10)

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. (Romans 12:9)

When it comes to sins of homosexuality, we hate the sin, but love the sinner as commanded (Leviticus 19:18; Matthew 22:39). Each person who has engaged in homosexual actions is actually my relative back to Noah. I want them to repent of their sin and be saved.

Now, don’t get me wrong, even those prone to homosexual behavior can be saved and changed through Jesus Christ. If they would rather cling to the sin over Jesus Christ, then it shows they love sin more than their Creator.

Remeber if GOD hates it and you dont do what god wants then your going to hell too.

Actually I am saved, so no sin that I do will cause me to go to Hell. But we do obey what God commands in that we hate the sin but love the sinner as God commands.

WOW WHAT A MESSAGE ! Do as I say not as I do.

God is clear that He also hates sin as indicated in Proverbs 8:13 but not the person whom He loves. But He too loves us in that He died for us while we were still sinners:

To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. (Proverbs 8:13)

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

The Lord tests the righteous and the wicked, And the one who loves violence His soul hates.” Now thats something from a guy who is supposed to love you no matter what.

This excerpt is from Psalm 11:

5The LORD tests the righteous and the wicked, And the one who loves violence His soul hates.
6Upon the wicked He will rain snares; Fire and brimstone and burning wind will be the portion of their cup.
7For the LORD is righteous, He loves righteousness; The upright will behold His face.

When read in context, it is clearly referring to those who have traded God’s love and sacrifice through Jesus Christ for their love of evil. God gave them the opportunity to accept His love and they refused and have died. This is clear because in verse six, these people are further spoken about by being judged with fire and brimstone which refers to their judgments in Revelation 19:20. Hence, they died without accepting Christ.

God loved them and they rejected God and sided with evil. God gave them what they asked for (2 Thessalonians 2:10–11). They had the option to choose God and His love but rejected it and chose not to have God, so God gave them their punishment. He gave them Hell, which is separation from God.

These people chose to align with evil and will die eternally. We, just like God, love them, in hopes they will change from their love of evil before it is too late, but when they die, God will judge them.

I have seen good people get struck down by cars, die of cancer, be shot for NO reason.

I see a reason. Man sinned against God, which means no one is innocent or good except God alone. Romans 3:23 is clear that all have fallen short of the glory of God.

Where is the merciful one there ?

Again, you are blaming God for problems that man caused. I want to encourage you to realize that even though man caused this, God is offering a way of eternal salvation, although sin and the curse will still cause earthly consequences.

please don’t tell me it’s because he needs angels or something like that I am sure he has @ least a 7 to 1 ratio. Anyhooo I am just a guy contemplating his faith and wanted a few answers.

I pray this helps. I want to encourage you to read about the curse and its effects. This seems to be the biggest stumbling block that you are having about God. Here are two articles that should help get you started:

I am a HETEROSEXUAL male that has been Baptized and owns 2 copies of the catholic catechism (last years and about 2 years ago) and a bible and I just dont see it how ANYONE even GOD can let good die and the bad live on.

God will judge sin though and since we sinned in Adam, then we will all die—whether bad or good. Remember that God says

Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment (Hebrews 9:27).

Not just humans either, war, disese, starvation Cmon now you have to do better than that

Again, these things are man’s fault, not God’s (Genesis 3). But God is gracious and gave the gift of His Son to save us anyway—that is truly a loving God to do such a thing.
