창조과학자들과 그들의 전기 1
(Creation scientists and other biographies of interest)
서언, 그리고믿지않는사람들
많은 역사가(무신론자를 포함하여 여러 종교를 가지고 있는)들은 현대 과학은 기독교 문화였던 유럽에서 발전하기 시작하였다고 기술하고 있다. 이들 역사가들은 우주는 합리적인 창조주에 의해서 만들어졌다는 가정 위에, 현대과학의 기초가 세워져 있다는 것을 지적하고 있다. 질서정연한 우주는 질서의 창조주에 의해서 만들어졌을 때에 완전한 의미를 가지게 되는 것이다. 만약 창조주가 없다면, 그래서 제우스나 다른 신들에 의해서 관리되고 있다면, 우주의 정교한 질서들은 어떻게 유지될 수 있겠는가? 그래서 강한 기독교 신앙은 과학을 연구하는데 하나의 장애물이 아니라, 과학의 기초가 되는 것이다.
그 러나 오래된 연대에 대한 믿음이 생겨난 후, 일부 과학자들은 굴복하여 버렸고, 그것에 맞게 성경을 재해석 하였다. 예를 들어 창세기 1장의 날들(days)은 실제로는 시대(ages)들이며, 노아의 홍수는 많은 격변들 중의 하나에 불과하다고 주장하였다. 그러한 재해석이 오류임을 밝히는 증거들은 Creation Answers and Noah’s Flood Covered the Whole Earth 을 참고하라.
그 해석은 의미를 가질 수도 있다. 그러나 잘못된 모델은 진화론자들에게 하나의 쉬운 표적이 되었다. 예를 들어, 섬의 종들은 자주 근처 대륙의 종들과 유사하였다는 다윈의 관측은 유행하던 이론(각 생물 종들은 현재의 위치에서 독립적으로 창조되었다는)과는 달랐음을 다윈은 지적했다. 그러나 그의 관측은 한 번의 전 지구적인 홍수가 있었고, 동물들은 아라랏산으로부터 이웃한 육지를 통해 섬으로 이동하였다는 진정한 성경적 관점과 완벽하게 일치하는 것이었다.
성 경의 명백한 의미를 과학과 일치하도록 타협하여야 한다고 가르치는 오늘날의 사람들에게 이것은 하나의 교훈이 되어져야만 한다. 그것은 오류 많은 인간들의 의견에서 벗어나 오류없는 하나님의 말씀에 권위를 둠으로서, 성경으로부터 더 많은 출발을 할 수 있는 길을 닦는 일이 될 것이다.
* 우리가 알고 있는 한도 내에서, 여기에 나열된 과거의 창조과학자들은 문자 그대로의 창세기를 믿었던 사람들이다. 그러나 문자 그대로를 믿지 않는 사람이라 하더라도 아래의 과거의 창조과학자 리스트에는 포함시켰다. 왜냐하면 성경의 창조주 하나님을 믿는 일반적인 믿음은 진화론과는 반대되기 때문이다. 그러나 현대의 창조과학자들 중에서 오래된 지구 연대를 믿는 사람들은 더 많은 것을 알아야하기 때문에 일부러 포함시키지 않았다. 왜냐하면 지구가 수십억년 되었다는 오래된 지구 연대 개념은 결국 무너져버릴 것이기 때문이다.
